Roti but not as you know it......
Kafe Kooks is Sydney's only dedicated roti restaurant — and we're right in the middle of one of the city's most connected neighbourhoods. You'll find us at 63 Mountain Street, Ultimo, a short walk from UTS, Broadway Shopping Centre, Central Park, Notre Dame University, TAFE Ultimo, and the University of Sydney. If you're coming from Central Station or the Fish Markets, we're easy to get to from either direction.
We opened in June 2021 with one simple idea: roti paratha deserves to be the star of the show, not a side dish. Everything on our menu is built around freshly made roti — from traditional Malaysian dishes like Roti Canai and our full curry range, to Singaporean style Dippy Eggs, through to modern café plates like Avocado Roti Coin, and breakfast wraps all rolled in fresh roti paratha instead of bread or a tortilla.
We call ourselves The House of Roti. Because that's exactly what we are.
The story behind it
Owner Andrew Ray fell in love with roti travelling through Southeast Asia and experiencing it in so many different forms — street stalls, hawker markets, family kitchens. He came home and couldn't find anywhere in Sydney doing it justice. So he built one.

Every piece of roti at Kafe Kooks is made fresh in house by our Roti Master, Suresh. You'll often see him working the dough at the counter. It's worth stopping to watch.
More than just breakfast
We're open 7 days from 6am — early enough for whatever your morning looks like. From the first coffee of the day through to a long lazy lunch, we see all kinds of people walk through our doors. Tradies, students, families, locals, first-timers, and people who've been coming three times a week since we opened. Whether you've never tried roti before or you can't imagine life without it — you'll get the same welcome. That's just how we do things here.
Our all-day menu means you can order curry and roti canai at 7am if you want to. No rules. Any time is roti time.
We also serve cocktails, wines by the glass, Genovese coffee, and a full range of drinks. Because good food deserves a good drink alongside it
Bookings are recommended and available online for up to 10 people — walk-ins are always welcome too
Come learn to make it yourself
Every second Thursday evening we run our Roti Masterclass — a hands-on session where you learn to stretch and flip roti paratha with Suresh, cook your own, and sit down to eat it fresh. It's one of the best nights out in Ultimo.
