Things to Do Near Broadway & Ultimo, With a Roti Stop Before or After
People often ask us what there is to do around here. The short answer is plenty, and most of it is a few minutes' walk from our door at 63 Mountain Street. Here are the places we send people to, whether you're here with the kids, catching up with friends or just making a day of it in the city.
Broadway Shopping Centre
Right next door to us, Broadway has everything from fashion and homewares to a supermarket for the weekly shop. It's an easy stop before or after a meal, and handy if you're meeting people who don't know the area.
Hoyts Broadway
Inside Broadway Shopping Centre, Hoyts is a great way to spend a couple of hours, especially on a hot or rainy day. Have breakfast with us before a morning session, or come in for lunch after the film. Our kitchen is open until 3pm.
Mind Games: Art Alive
Stimulate your mind at Mind Games, then satisfy your stomach at Kafe Kooks.
Mind Games is an immersive illusions museum at 154–160 Broadway, Chippendale, a short walk across Broadway from us. It's full of interactive rooms, mirrors and illusions that make for great photos, and kids love it. A visit takes about 60 to 90 minutes, and it's recommended for ages 3 and up.
Food and drinks aren't allowed inside, so come in for a roti first, or come back afterwards for one. Check their website for session times and tickets.
Sydney Fish Market
The new Sydney Fish Market building at Blackwattle Bay is about a 10-minute walk from Kafe Kooks. It's a Sydney icon and fun for kids to explore, and the walk there is a good way to work off a roti.
Something for the Adults: The Green Room
The kids have had their fun, so now it's your turn. The Green Room at 166–170 Broadway, Chippendale is an Irish gastro pub with Guinness, cocktails and hearty pub food, including a spice bag the locals rave about. They have trivia, live music on the weekend and a traditional Irish session on Sunday afternoons. Check their website for what's on.
We close at 4pm, and they're open from midday most days, so it's an easy switch from roti and coffee to a pint. If you'd rather start with us, we're licensed too, with beer, wine and cocktails.
Studying or Staying Nearby?
We're just around the corner from UTS and a short walk from the University of Sydney, so we see plenty of students, staff and proud families on graduation and open days. Grab a coffee and roti between classes, or book a table for a celebration breakfast after the ceremony.
Staying at Veriu Broadway or a local Airbnb? We're open from 6am, 7 days, so breakfast is sorted before you head out for the day.
Start or Finish Your Day at Kafe Kooks
Whatever's on your list, we're right in the middle of it. Come in for freshly cooked roti paratha, Malaysian curries, iced coffees and cold drinks. We're open 7 days from 6am, with the kitchen open until 3pm.
